This week our app of the week comes from tech city Boston. Summer holiday booked? Fear not because co founder of Kayak, Paul English, has recently launched a new travel app providing an on demand personal travel service.  Acting as your very own travel concierge Lola the portmanteau of longitude and latitude is like having your very own Thompson holiday agent in your pocket.

The Lola app can instantly connect to travel consultants whilst maintaining the interface of a consumer booking app. The easy to use messaging interface allows users to connect with a team of experienced travel consultants, from booking flights through to arranging hotels, Lola aims to take care of all your travel needs. Using a combination of AI technology and an experienced work force Lola provides an alternative to many of the dominant travel websites on the market.

The slight downside is that Lola is an invite only members service whilst continued development takes place and currently it’s only available in the US, but there are plans to introduce an annual membership fee sometime in the near future and to expand its global reach.

Further development of the app will mean the continued discussion between travel consultant and consumer through the whole travel booking process. The interface has been designed to enable the collection of the consumers personal profile information and using algorithms and desirability factors such as spending preferences and consumer behaviour predictions, the app aims to make for an easier travel booking process. Even more in demand is the flight care plan put in place to help travellers deal with unforeseen disruptions like flight cancellations.
Having already secured investment of more than $20 million and with plans to raise further capital, 2016 is set to be an exciting year for Lola and travel technology in general. For consumers who already have a myriad of travel choices, a holiday is often necessary after trawling through endless reviews, star ratings and flight choices, Lola might not be available for this year’s summer holiday but keep it in mind for 2017.
